Peer Assessment

What works well?
The way it has all been fitted together with an stinger at the start and at the end. You have also pretty much completed the task at hand to a fairly high standard, and have done all the necessary objectives that have been set.

What needs improvement?
I would personally change the fact you have asked everyone the same question besides one person. I would have asked each person the same question for each clip. Also the intro sounds really rushed as you talk at a fast pace compared to how you ask your questions

How well do you feel it has met the brief?
I think you have met the brief very well with no real issues as you have filled up the required time, with the necessary content. But you are a couple of seconds short of the required time that was set

What would you do differently?
I would have asked everyone the same question as this would have made more sense to me. Also the transitions betweens clips doesn't sound natural, almost like there is a sharp cut between each piece of audio. I would probably add a slight fade in and fade out at the start and end of each clip to make each transition sound more natural.

Initial Ideas: Script Sample

Intro soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7E3W7GySsM1.

I'm going to talk briefly about the people who I will be interviewing, before beginning the interview as part of the product. The product will be informal to allow space for a more comedic

Hello, I'm Joe Taylor an today I'm going to be talking about UTC Sheffield. I will be discussing the opinions of both the teachers and students at the college, as-well as providing some information about the college involving the options that the students and teachers get once they have joined the college. I will be explaining the opportunities that the students will have one they come to the college, as well as discussing the college with some of the students and teachers from the college.

Initial Ideas: Idea 2

Idea 2
I have chosen my first idea for the audio product that I will be producing.

The second idea that I would like to develop is:

Commentary:
This product involves talking about TV programmes and comparing the opinions of myself and guests during the commentary. The commentary will be talking about the either popular or new programmes which have recently been seen on television.
I will be developing this idea because I think it would be very interesting for the listeners. who watch those programmes.

The target audience for this audio product would be people who enjoy watching TV programmes and would like to find out other peoples opinions about the programs that have ben on recently. There is no specific age range for this audio product because it just depends upon the type of television programme which has been chosen to be reviewed, and will vary between each one to make the product more interesting. The listeners would be from a variety of different subcultures and countries. They are likely to be local, from Sheffield, because the guests on the show would be from Sheffield, which would make the audio product more likely to interest people from the same area.

The audio media product would be made up of commentary and discussion between the guest and host, as they talk about the TV programmes that have been chosen to be the topic. I will record the audio media product using a microphone and pop shield. I will use equipment such as an audio mixer and make sure me and the guests are in a room which has little echo. I will need to edit the  I will keep the recording high quality by making sure that the audio sounds clear, and speaking into the microphone as clearly as possible trying to sound enthusiastic to make the product more interesting.

Initial Ideas: Idea 1

Idea 1
I have chosen my first idea for the audio product that I will be producing.

The Ideas that I would like to continue with are:

Radioshow:
Talking about new artists and playing their music while explaining some information about the artists. Also possibly interviewing the artist or a guest who also talks and has a discussion with me about the main artist or band.

Chosen Audio Products

Audio Products

I have chosen two audio products out of the ideas that I came up with, in order to develop the ideas which I think could work the best.

The two ideas that I would like to develop are:

Radioshow:
This product involves me talking about new and local artists, from Sheffield, and I will be playing their music while talking about the artists, and interviewing them in between the songs they produce.
I will be developing this idea because I think it is original in the way I will be interviewing local artists from sheffield and playing their music to the listeners, who the music will most likely be new to.

 Commentary:
This product involves talking about TV programmes and comparing the opinions of myself and guests during the commentary. The commentary will be talking about the either popular or new programmes which have recently been seen on television.
I will be developing this idea because I think it would be very interesting for the listeners. who watch those programmes.

Audio Product Ideas

Audio Product Ideas Mindmap

I have created a mindmap explaining some different ideas about audio products that I could produce. I have attempted to invent new and original ideas for a podcast, radio drama, audio book, commentary and radio show. The diagram above includes all of these types of media products and they show a range of different ideas I could use, within each section.

The Ideas that I would like to continue with are:

Radioshow:
Talking about new artists and playing their music while explaining some information about the artists. Also possibly interviewing the artist or a guest who also talks and has a discussion with me about the main artist or band.

Audio Book:
Present a children's book, possibly in the form of an adaptation in order to engage the younger audiences and get them more interested in reading and starting to listen to audio books.

Commentary:
Talking about TV programmes and comparing the opinions of guests or people who have submitted questions and statements to be brought up during the commentary. The commentary will be talking about the different programmes and what people like about them or dislike and if they want to continue to see that program appear on television in the future.

Factors Affecting Production

The following factors affect production:

Noise
The noise can be a factor, because yo need to be able to hear the presenter and guests, or music. Also the quality is affected because if the background noise is loud then you cannot hear the product clearly.

Echo
If there is an echo in the background when recording the product, it will be distracting and make it difficult for the audience to clearly hear the product.

File Type
The file type can affect the production quality, because if the file type is a mp3 file it would be higher quality audio, therefore the audience is more likely to enjoy the product.

File Compression

The file compression is the size of the file, the smaller the file is the easier it is to move around. However having smaller file size means that the quality of the audio will be lowered.

Recording Level
For different products, the sound will need to be at a different level, for example someone with a loud voice would use a lower recording level, for a better result.

Distortion
Recording Bitrate

Features of Audio Software

Adobe Soundbooth
Some useful features of Adobe Soundbooth, when creating an audio product are:

Use multiple audio tracks
This allows you to be able to create something using numerous tracks and produce different layers in which are used to make an overall product, sound(s) or music.

Automatic Volume Correction
This feature allows you to automatically correct the volume of individual clips rather than having to manually change the volume of each piece of audio, this allows you to have an equal volume throughout the audio product that you create.

Cubase
Some useful features of Cubase, when creating an audio product are:

Track Visibility
Allows you to only see the tracks that you choose to see, in the window. This means that you can focus on the pieces of audio/tracks that you want to, and you can focus on creating the overall product with them. This could be useful when trying to listen to one piece of audio on its won - after it has been placed in the right place on the overall track timeline.

Re-Record Mode:
Allows you to continue recording even if there's a section that you don't want to use, it will save the previous version and you can just use the parts that you want. This saves time because you dont have to start from the beginning everytime you feel you could have made the piece of music or sentence better, or if you stutter while reading an audio book for example.
